Michelle Williams Talks About “My Week with Marilyn” To ELLE UK for their December 2011 issue. Williams has already a nice list of magazine covers under her belt and this is just another accomplishment to add to her list. The photographer was Alexei Hay and shot a holiday themed type of photo shoot that features Williams wearing a Prada lip mini dress. The dress worn is a piece from the Resort 2012 collection.
During the filming of the movie it was said that a psychic came into connection with the late Marilyn Monroe. Williams’ thoughts on that matter, “While we were filming, something came out in the National Enquirer that a psychic had spoken to her and that she approved of what we were doing and she thought I was doing a really good job. So maybe she likes it!” This sounds a bit creepy and it’s kind of hard to believe that this is true.
Williams tried to match her voice as close as Monroe’s voice, but was difficult due to the lack of any recordings of her speaking with a friend. At the end Williams did the best she could to give her version of Monroe’s voice. Williams explains, “I studied tapes. There”s really nothing that exists of her, that I could find anyway, that exists of her having a conversation with a friend. So there wasn’t a template that existed for her everyday vocal pattern, so at a certain point you have to make it imaginatively.”
This movie is based on Monroe’s film “The Prince and the Showgirl,” and Williams had done almost the same things that Monroe did during her time of life. Williams explains, “There were so many connections and parallels for me in making this film. I was 30 when making the movie, the same age Marilyn was when she filmed The Prince and the Showgirl, the picture our film is based around. We filmed in the same studio at Pinewood where that movie was made. I had the same dressing room Marilyn had used and we also shot at the same house, Parkside, where she had stayed during filming.”
While filming this film Williams was able to experience what Monroe had experience during her time in England. Williams states, “What Marilyn anticipated happening and what actually happened were two very different things and they created discord and unhappiness for her in England. She was expecting to go to London and make a movie with the most esteemed actor of the time and hoped it would bring her the respect that she deserved and craved. When she arrived she felt she was being mistreated and laughed at. Olivier sneered at her and didn’t treat her with the kind of attention she was hoping for but when you watch the film now, you can see Marilyn wipes the floor with the rest of the cast. They are all very stiff, mannered and archaic but if she were making that movie today there is nothing about her performance that has gone out of fashion or faded. She is very real, very in the moment and so beautiful.”

Oz The Great and Powerful with James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams
What… A new Wizard of Oz movie? Yup, you heard it right. Oz The Great and Powerful recently began shooting this week at the new Raleigh Michigan Studios. The 200,000 square foot sound stage was once the home of a GM business campus and truck manufacturing plant, but is now being used for filming Hollywood movies. So, what is the celeb buzz? Well, for starters Oz The Great and Powerful is a Sam Raimi project (also did the Spiderman series). And the cast includes James Franco Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams.
James Franco plays a shady circus magician that is swept away from Kansas by a tornado and taken to the Land of Oz. Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams all play withches that James Franco’s character encounters along the way. There names have been released. Mila Kunis plays Theodora, Rachel Weisz plays Evanora, and Michelle Williams plays Glinda. The film has a totally different approach to the original story that is sure to wow audiences.
