Kristen Dunst Talks About Her Depression With Flare Magazine. Dunst joins other famous celebrities who also have opened up to different magazines about their personal lives; such as Rose McGowan Escape From A Cult, Ellen DeGeneres Rough Childhood, and Olivia Wilde Talks About Divorce. Dunst is featured on the front cover of the October 2011 Flare magazine. She talks about dealing with depression in 2008 as well as her new movie “Melancholia.” The film will be released in the United Kingdom on September 30 and then November 11 in the United States.

When Dunst was asked about what was going on with her depression in 2008, she simply responded, “I think that most human beings go through some sort of depression in their life. And if they don’t, I think that’s weird.”

In society there is a huge stigma on depression. If you are someone who suffers from depression you are made by society to feel embarrassed or ashamed of it. Many people you are currently suffering don’t seek help, because they don’t want their family and friends finding out. There are currently over 9 million Americans suffering from this illness and over 340 million people worldwide. It has also been stated that men are most likely to commit suicide because they are less likely to seek help.

When Dunst was asked about how she felt about the stigma that is associated with depression, she answered, “People are embarrassed to talk about it. I would never put anyone down that was in that kind of space.”

Dunst was also asked about what she thinks about her performance in the film “Melancholia,” she answered, “It was really hard for me to watch because I don’t recognize myself in parts of that film. It weirds me out a little bit. Like my voice change, this look in my eye. It scared me a little bit.”

“Melancholia” is a film about two sisters that do not have a good relationship and is on the verge of not having one at all. Their relationship is somewhat challenged as the planet Melancholia is on the path to crash into Earth. This film is directed by director Lars Von Trier and also stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland.
